Hypasia, a beautiful lady was a student of Alexandria University, Alexandria (Egypt) in the 5th century. She was a scientist and astronomer, and also studied philosophy. She passed her whole life in the quest of wisdom and experiment, till her last breathe. She survived up to 43 when there had been mob riot and many fanatical masses destroyed Alexandria and murdered her brutally due to religious dogmatism. Hypasia, thus, regarded as the last learned lady of the world. But why?
Prior to 5th century, 300 years before, Alexander the Great ruled the throne of Greece. During the reign, Alexander had a knowledge about the rich lure of wisdom and literary pursuits of ancient India, when India at that period was named 'Inde.' Large number of talents and literati grew up in Indian soil. Alexander was overwhelmed and anxious to conquer India. He wanted to take on India and bring to his kingdom, those wisdom and enlightenment. He planned a war and fought bravely, conquered most of the countries that were situated prior to soil of 'Inde' and finally proved himself by conquering 'Inde.' On the way, he also conquered Egypt. There he formed his own famous city, Alexandria. Alexandria city was craved very beautifully and intricate designed palaces and monuments lay the city with royal look. Alexandria was the person who built the famous Alexandria University.Just as Oxford University stands today, so as Alexandria University stood that period. It was the only known biggest and the most popular university of the world. The university had huge stock of books, manuscripts and libraries. Many learned people from around the world and overseas joined the university. Among them, Hypasia was the most learned figure of the times. She took for herself as an astronomer and scientist, and spent her life in the meditation of science. But the greatest tragedy followed her destiny. The religious dogmatic and fanatical followers were always against the scientific development and gradual modernistic outlook. They were against the so called Renaissance. They could not bear the moral and rational upliftment of the people. So, huge masses belonging to same water, move forward and destroyed the city of Alexandria. They put the city ablaze and held bludgeon in their hand and, bloodbath follows in the once beautiful city. Nothing was left untouched, as they shun untouchability literally. The city flowed in red. The Alexandria University burnt into ashes along with its learned companies. Hypasia too, could not escape death. She fell in the hands of prey. She was tied naked at the end of a chariot and was driven naked scratching against the road. She fought till her last...the horrible, shocking and frolic dimension of mankind that had ever happened in the history!
